Permeability test and problem analysis of composite membrane (Part 2)
the final effect of composite and blending on improving the barrier property of materials is also different. See Figure 3, where a is the composite mode, and B and C are the mixing mode. It can be seen from Figure 3 that the overall barrier effect can be significantly improved by using less high barrier materials through the composite method, and to achieve the same effect, a large number of high barrier materials are often used in the mixed method
Figure 3 Comparing different mixing methods will have different degree of gas resistance
3. Permeability test of composite film
permeability test of composite film is an important test item, and it is also the main judgment basis to detect whether the structure of composite film is reasonable and whether there is material waste when packaging specific items. It is an important link in packaging design and material selection
different from the detection of monolayers (including blends), the multilayer structure of the composite film may cause its layer to exhaust or inhale gas, interfering with the test results. Since the content of gas components in the surrounding environment is almost the same as that in the general atmosphere, if the edge of the sample is not sealed, it will become a leakage point of the whole test system, which will not only affect the accuracy of the test data, but also increase the impact of the surrounding environment waves on the test. The barrier test is a microscopic test that is sensitive to the test environment, which is more obvious in multilayer composite films. See Table 1

it is not difficult to see from the data provided in Table 1 that for multilayer composite films a and B, Whether to seal the edge of the sample during the test has a great impact on the results of the whole test and the stability of the data. After not sealing the edge of sample a, the test data increased by 23%, and the fluctuation of the test data also expanded by about 3%; For sample B, the effect is more obviousin order to eliminate the influence of edge leakage on the test results, the edge of the material needs to be tightly sealed during the barrier test of the film, such as applying vacuum ester to the impermeable area of the test chamber during lofting, adding sealing rings on the periphery of the sample, etc., so as to reduce the edge leakage of the sample with the maximum structural capacity of the portal UTM testing machine up to 1000~135000lb
